Benefits of ICF include superior energy efficiency, fire resistance, improved indoor air quality, humidity regulation and mold growth mitigation. ICF create a structural concrete wall that is ten times stronger than wood framed structures.
The foundation and walls were formed in the summer of 2014 to allow for the grand opening and tapping of the keg in October. The Hermit Club, founded in 1904 and located in the heart of Cleveland's Playhouse Square, forged a partnership with Hofbrauhaus Cleveland in 2014. Through this partnership, the Hermit Club's tutor style building was incorporated into a Hofbrauhaus Restaurant and brewery with seating for 1700 people. The original Hofbrauhaus opened in Munich Germany in 1589 and is still operating.
Ritenour was hired to construct the foundation and walls for the new beer garden using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). ICF is system of formwork for reinforced concrete made with a rigid insulation that stays in place as a permanent interior and exterior substrate for walls, floors, and roofs. The forms are inter-locking modular units that are dry-stacked and filled with concrete.
